Also, the owner of the Geek Squad assured us the top 2 brands to purchase at BB were HP and Compaq. So we went with the cheaper option. It's cool though man, it's silver and has a wide screen. Whaddya think of THAT?

the best buy guy is a moron just trying to make a buck hp is allright but compaq sucks. dont use wireless internet it is horrible and there are ways for people to milk off of your connection because it is just floating through the air unlike dsl or cable which are run through magical wires. if you have more than one firewall installed on your computer it will cause conflict errors. if you have windows xp sp2 dont bother getting another firewall unless you want to uninstall sp2.

Actually...our wireless works great. We have it double-encrypted and live in a very upscale neighborhood. So not too worried about that.

The BB guy was not the one who told us about Compaq's being good; it was 1. an IT friend of mine who works in DC 2. the owner of a reputable computer repair shop down the street. Best Buy salesmen don't make commission either. Plus i don't think this guy knew how to tie his shoe so we were all set when we walked in.

We have Norton Anti-virus & Adaware for protection systems.

Do you strictly use Mac's? How do you like them?

i converted to a G4 powerbook almost two years ago now. once you get used to the interface and get out the windows mind-set, i think they're great. laptop would freeze up on very rare occasions (usually only while using the microsoft mac office software), but overall rock solid. i'm now completely microsoft-free. the new desktop is great! two enthusiastic thumbs up.

Check out Dell. The computers and support are great however they are a little expensive. Sometimes you can get a good deal and get free shipping.
